Chico State Formula SAE is a high-performance collegiate engineering organization dedicated to technical excellence and competitive racing. We provide a modular platform for students to gain hands-on experience in automotive design, simulation, and fabrication, bridging the gap between theoretical physics and real-world motorsport application.
Our mission is to engineer track ready racing machines; preparing the next generation of Chico State FSAE members with skills and oppotunities to excel in automotive engineering. Through SAE International competitions, we test the limits of our engineering DNA on the world’s most demanding circuits.
Utilizing advanced CFD to engineer high-downforce packages, including front/rear wings and underbody diffusers designed for maximum grip.
Optimizing performance through custom fuel maps, intake plenum design, and specialized exhaust systems tuned for rapid acceleration and reliability.
Designing chassis architecture and suspension kinematics. Focusing on tire data acquisition and damper tuning to ensure optimal contact patch performance.
The journey began with a vision of peak engineering. Chico State established its presence in the SAE Formula arena by developing a prototype chassis prioritizing structural integrity and driver ergonomics over raw power—laying the groundwork for every future generation.
Transitioning into the 2021 season, focus shifted to aerodynamic efficiency. CFD-driven downforce gains unlocked higher lateral acceleration and improved competitiveness.
Today, Chico State Formula SAE represents the pinnacle of collegiate automotive engineering. Our current prototype features carbon-composite integration and a custom-tuned powertrain that has secured top-tier finishes. We remain dedicated to relentless performance and hands-on growth.
